The 2008 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division 1 Player-of-the-Year Award goes to forward #8 Jim Gehring of West Chester University, as selected by the Head Coaches of ACHA Men's Division 1.

The other finalists for the Men's Division 1 Player-of-the-Year Award were:

  • #1 Mike Burda, Goalie, University of Illinois
  • #19 Jake Ebner, Forward, Lindenwood University
  • #20 Dave Semenyna, Defense, Liberty University

Jim, a junior from Chester Springs, PA, is the first player from West Chester University to win the Men's Division 1 Player-of-the-Year Award, and the 3rd forward to win the Player-of-the-Year Award in the last 4 seasons.

Jim, the captain of West Chester University, was an ACHA Men's Division 1 1st Team All-American and averaged a whopping 2.81 points-per-game. Jim led all ACHA Men’s Division 1 players in 2007-2008 in the following statistical categories: goals [53], assists [51], points [104], and game winning goals [7]. He was selected to participate in 1st ACHA Men’s Division 1 All-Star Game on March 29 at Penn State University and was named the 3rd Star-of-the-Game.

In the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association [ECHA] this season, Jim was 1st Team All-League, named to the ECHA All-Star Team, and the Most Valuable Player of the 2008 ECHA Playoffs. Jim led West Chester to both the ECHA Regular Season and Playoff Championships. Individually, Jim averaged 3.80 points-per-game and led the ECHA in goals [19] and points [38].

Jim was named the Most Valuable Player of West Chester University in both 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons, and holds the following school records: goals in a game [5]; points in a season [108]; goals in a season [55]; assists in a season [53]; playmakers in a season [7]; short-handed goals in a season [6]; and plus/minus in a season [+60], demonstrating his commitment to play at both ends of the ice.

In 2006-2007, Jim was: an ACHA Men’s Division 1 3rd Team All-American; an ECHA 1st Team All-League selection; and an ECHA All-Star Team member.

In his two seasons at West Chester University, Jim has a total of 92 goals and 78 assists for 170 points.

06/2005: Summer Dryland Info
To all new and returning players: There will be dryland training starting on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at 6:15 PM. We will meet at South campus and train for 1.5 hrs each week. If you are within a 60 minute drive of West Chester University, you are expected to attend. This will take place on Thursday of each week throughout the summer, until we meet on September 8, 2005 for our first tryout. We, the coaches, strongly recommend that you attend these sessions. This will improve you and the team, as we begin preparations for the 2005/2006 season. Attendance will be taken!!! This notice should provide you with plenty of time to clear your work schedule so that you will be able to attend. Please call Coach Gonsalves (Gonzo) at 484-645-2705. Anything worth while takes commitment and sacrifice.

Special note for all returning players:
If you plan on coming back next season, it would be in your best interest to attend these dryland sessions. No spot on this team is secure, but if you want a better chance of keeping your spot, we need to see you. There are approx. 35 new guys trying out for this team. Who wants it more than the other guy? We are looking for dedicated, determined and driven players who want to work and get better.

04/2004: ACHA Awards
#2 Chris Manigrassi was named a 2nd Team All-American for the ACHA and #11 Kevin Deal was name an Academic All-American.

03/2004: ACHA National Tournament
#1 Eric Sotsky and #16 Jim Gibson who were named to the ACHA Honorable Mention All-Tournament Team.

03/2004: ACHA National Tournament
The West Chester Ice Hockey Club qualified for the national tournament for the first time since 1987. The club finished #10 in the nation before the tournament, and it traveled to Ames, IA from March 3-6, 2004 for the tournament. West Chester lost to #3 Rhode Island (4-0) on Wednesday, March 3rd, and the club lost to #6 Michigan-Dearborn (2-1) on Thursday, March 4th. Congratualtions to the club on a very successful season.

12/2003: AJ Ruth Jr.
West Chester Ice Hockey lost a dear friend and member of the ice hockey club on December 20, 2003. AJ Ruth Jr., West Chester's long time statistician passed away on the 20th. AJ was in his 17th year as statistician for the Rams, and he was working with Coach Weil long before they both started at West Chester. AJ was a great man, and he will be greatly missed!

09/2003: ACHA Showcase
WCU will be participating in the ACHA Showcase tournament at IceLine Arena over the weekend of October 10-12, 2003. WCU games are as follows:
